PRE-EVENT TO UNITED UNDERGROUND (5pm to 11pm)
Ctrl.Alt.Shift (the UK social and global injustice-combating initiative for the next generation) will be running a live street art showcase/competition outside Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank on Saturday July 18th as part of the United Underground project. Artists will be given 6 hours to finish their pieces (based around the theme of CORRUPTION) between 10am and 4pm. By 5pm all pieces will be showcased in the hall, for the public to vote on their favourite whilst United Underground continues (through until 11pm). The top pieces will be displayed in Ctrl.Alt.Shift magazine Issue 4 (Corruption) out in September 2009.

Note: United Underground – Groundbreaking, first of its kind event (brought together by Ctrl.Alt.Shift, British Underground and Shifty actor Riz Ahmed) of radicalism, activism and underground music on a new platform for young people. There will be workshops for art, music, and film, plus speakers and performances from the various industries. Expect top djs, live journalism opportunities and a party on the roof! The street art exhibition is the day’s sexy and tasty warm up event to the United Underground’s evening proceedings.

Entertainment:

Grab a sticker – cast your vote:

The public can vote for their favourite art piece by taking a Ctrl.Alt.Shift sticker and placing it on their work of choice. The Ctrl.Alt.Shift street team (spot them in their red Ctrl t-shirts!) will be handing out these stickers all along Southbank from 10am onwards. Voting starts once all pieces are finished at 4pm.

Quote by organiser of the street art event, and deputy editor of Ctrl.Alt.Shift website, 22 year old Dwain Lucktung: “To any and all art fans – you don’t want to miss out on this amazing opportunity to see 10 of the UK’s hottest artists go head to head, live and uncensored. I’m very excited to watch artistic flare and genius unravel before my eyes – who knows what crazy pieces these guys are going to create.”
