Art Challenge is a 24-hour event to be held on 22/23 January at the coworking space Central Working Whitechapel with the aim of encouraging technology adoption and entrepreneurship in the art industry.
Art Challenge will see participants develop ambitious new businesses for the art industry from scratch. These will explore the new opportunities of funding, making, sharing and enjoying art and culture as made possible by the latest technological developments.
The event begins on Friday evening with challenge questions set by Artfinder, Vastari, Sedition and Gitoon to help participants understand some of the main issues currently facing the art market. Next, participants will pitch their ideas and form teams around the most popular ones. The following day will see the teams hard at work on their projects, building product prototypes or testing marketing campaigns for presentation to the judges on Saturday evening.
With an experienced panel of judges and coaches including Jonas Almgren (Artfinder), Bernadine Bröcker (Vastari), Theodora Clarke (Russian Art and Culture) and FAD’s very own Mark Westall – the participants will be able to ask for advice and test their ideas against some experts and leading names in the fields of arts, entrepreneurship and technology.
Luba Elliott, event director, said:
“Traditionally, the art industry has been low in technological and business innovation. With the event, we are encouraging participants to bring their ideas and experiences from the art world and other industries to start new companies and solve some of the most pressing problems in the art world.
Art Challenge event condenses the rollercoaster journey of entrepreneurship into one action-packed 24 hours. Surrounded by arts industry stakeholders and with experienced coaches on hand, the event is ideal for testing new technologies, business ideas and approaches to then develop them into a fully-fledged business afterwards.”
