Artist Talk: Michael Landy

Zab_20_109-CROPPED

In Bin it for Britain artist Michael Landy will discuss his practice in relation to ideas of value, usefulness, productivity and labour.

His conceptually and politically charged work varies from epic performances to meticulous drawings and collages and often involves finding new potential for objects with specific personal or cultural connotations. From his early investigation of the rhythms of market stall displays, to his monumental installation Break Down in 2001, in which he systematically destroyed all of his possessions in a former department store, his work explores the everyday ways in which capitalism shapes our lives and identities.

BBQ, Book Launch & Artist Performance

_N2A8861-1

Property Guardian is an exhibition of new mixed media sculptures and drawings that use and manipulate motifs relating to the home and domesticity, from Alex Frost’s residency at Flat Time House. A reflexive exercise, these works have been made whilst living and working in a home, gallery and archive. They have developed out of an investigation into the role of artists within a community, and the way in which the living conditions of artists have been politicised through the current culture of property speculation, and property guardianship programmes in particular. Alex’s work is made not with any critical distance but rather from a conflicted and implicated position.
