Even the biggest beasts of the art world need their watering holes. Here are a few we like:
Cookshop
Let’s assume, just for a minute that you stayed up late last night. Maybe you went to one too many openings. Maybe there was champagne. Maybe you didn’t hydrate. Cookshop will make you better. This excellent, seasonally focused, unfussy joint takes American classics and makes them sing, at breakfast (those poached eggs with cheesy grits will cure your morning head), lunch and dinner time. www.cookshopny.com
Toro
Where to go when you’re celebrating and want a bit of a party feel around you. An eclectic menu focusing on both traditional and modern tapas combines regional Spanish flavors and techniques with local and market-fresh ingredients in a buzzy, vibey environment that captures the feel of a really cool Barcelona tapas joint.

I Sodi
Nestled in a tiny shopfront on St Christopher’s St, I Sodi is the place for when you need a little nurturing in your life. Eponymous owner Rita Sodi grew up on a farm in Tuscany and founded the place after quitting a jet set life in fashion, where every trip abroad served only to show her just how fantastic her mother’s simple, beautifully seasonal Italian fare was. A little olive oil? Why yes of course it’s from Rita’s farm in Tuscany, and like as not you’ll find her at the comfortable bar, sharing the secrets of her house negroni.
