The inaugural Prudential Eye Awards celebrate and recognise artistic talent from across greater Asia and will be held at Singapore’s Suntec City on 18 January. Flying in to Singapore to attend the awards are a host of visual artists, curators, museum directors, Asian business leaders, international celebrities, and other world renowned figures.

One of China’s foremost contemporary artists and a painter of international stature, Liu Xiaodong will be honoured with an award for Outstanding Contribution to Asian Art, sponsored by Audemars Piguet. His career has been defined by an unparalleled dedication to the chronicling of humanity – living day-to-day on-site with the subjects of his paintings. Through multiple significant solo exhibitions in museums and major international art galleries, Liu Xiaodong has contributed significantly to the worldwide understanding and appreciation of art from Asia.

Members of the feminist art collective Pussy Riot, Nadezhda (Nadya) Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, will attend alongside Russian-Canadian artist and husband of Nadya, Pyotr Verzilov. Pussy Riot have been nominated in the digital/video category of the awards for their performances described as ‘oppositional art’ including their world notorious Punk Prayer.

About Parallel Contemporary Art:

The Parallel Award for painting and the Serenella Ciclitira Scholarship for sculpture still provide valuable support and stipe-ends for graduating fine artists. Through their love of travel and discovering new artist talent, they realised young artists in many parts of Asia were under supported and going unnoticed.
