Damien Hirst does Mickey Mouse for charity

Damien-Hirst-Mickey

Damien Hirst has reinterpreted Mickey in his recognisable spots style to raise money for the Kids Company charity.
The painting, which is nearly two metres tall by a metre wide, is painted on canvas with gloss paint and will be listed in Christie’s Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Auction.

Hirst has long-supported the charity which offers support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people. He said,

“Mickey Mouse represents happiness and the joy of being a kid and I have reduced his shape down to the basic elements of a few simple spots. I hope people love it, because it is still instantly recognisable – Mickey Mouse is such a universal and powerful icon.”

“Mickey” will be on view to the public as part of Christie’s auction’s pre-sale exhibition from Saturday 8th February.
