Instead of recycling plastic bottles the traditional way, Azus Murakami and Alexander Groves of Studio Swine found a better use for them. They heated beverage bottles and re-blew them into unique bulbs that vary in shapes and sizes, and featured these new plastic forms on their “Stand Light” floor lamp. This environmentally-conscious technique requires a small amount of energy and is a way to reduce carbon footprint while creating new design objects.
Customized brass fittings and LEDs are placed into the bulbs. The lamp stands 150cm tall and 70 cm wide and has a solid pine-wood structure.
“Stand Light” is one part of the recycle-inspired project titled the “São Paulo Collection.” The studio has been exploring different mediums to further express their contemporary designs and abstract patterns, while upholding their green initiatives. Via: PSFK.com
