Ethan Cook is a Brooklyn based artist, working within the history of ‘painting’ but with none of the paint. Instead, Cook creates his pared down compositions from canvas alone. The outcome is seen in austere yet compelling works that challenge the picture plane by turning the surface into the painting. His work has developed through various series, all of which utilize and transform different aspects of the material.
