The British Council, in partnership with Anadolu Kultur – a non-profit cultural organisation promoting community development, urban regeneration and civil participation across Turkey – are inviting applications from UK-based artists who work with moving image, to participate in a month-long residency.
The residency is scheduled to run for a month from late April to end of May 2013 in Diyarbakir, located in the south east of Turkey, close to the Turkish-Iraqi border.
Situated on the banks of the River Tigris, Diyarbakir is considered symbolically to be the capital of the Kurdish population in Turkey; the residency will provide an opportunity for a video artist to engage with this unique and diverse region.
The successful applicant is expected to work with local artists and the wider community and to share skills and knowledge, with a view to building international links. It is hoped that there will be a possibility to showcase the work developed, in Diyarbakir at the end of the residency.
The British Council will cover the cost of return economy flights from the UK, accommodation and an allowance. To apply, please submit;
– a short statement about your work and how you would approach the residency. Please take into account the location and time available to consider which areas of your practice might be most effectively employed and developed in this context.
– CV/ videography – drawing out any experience you have had working collaboratively and/ or leading workshops If it is not possible to view your works online, image and video files can be supplied via wetransfer.com
Submit your application by Friday, 1st March to katrina.schwarz@britishcouncil.org
