Fashion Designer Betsey Johnson joins AIKO, Paul Frank, POSE, Simone Legno, and many more popular artists for Sanrio’s first art exhibition in New York City

This December, New York City will experience Sanrio’s vibrant art phenomena at the highly-anticipated book release celebration for Hello Kitty, Hello Art! Join Sanrio’s ambassador of art Hello Kitty, featured artists from the book and beloved fashion designer Betsey Johnson at Openhouse Gallery in SoHo for a three-day weekend filled with fanciful delights for fans of all ages. Sanrio’s first art event in New York City will feature a gallery exhibition, artist signings, limited-edition prints, specialty product releases and many more surprises. The book, as well as original artwork, limited-edition prints and custom holiday-themed merchandise will be available for sale at Openhouse Gallery.

Showcasing a colorful spectrum of paintings, sculpture, prints, and media ranging from pop to street aesthetics, the gallery exhibition will display a collection of Sanrio-inspired works of art by popular artists from around the world, including:

64 Colors, Adam Wallacavage, AIKO, Betsey Johnson, Cat Cult, Danni Shinya Luo, Grant Cobb, Jeremyville, Jessica Louise, Kenton Parker, Kime Buzzelli, Linas Garsys, Mark Mulroney, Miguel Paredes, Natalia Fabia, Niagara, Nicole Bruckman, Nina Chanel Abney, Paul Frank, POSE, Raul Gonzalez, RISK, Ron English, SEVER, Shane Jessup, Simone Legno, THANK YOU X, Tim Conlon, Tristan Eaton and more artists to be announced.
Highlights include a print release by Betsey Johnson.

International graffiti sensation DABS MYLA will be onsite to paint a custom mural, and the holiday themed pop-up shop will offer an assortment of limited-edition holiday gift items, including a collectible DABS MYLA ornament, custom-made candy from Papabubble, holiday wreaths & garland and specialty Sanrio character designs by Berkeley Illustration. Continuing the holiday spirit of friendship and giving, Sanrio will release a new print by celebrated graffiti artist POSE, with 100% of the net proceeds from sales going to the American Red Cross for Hurricanes 2012.

On Saturday and Sunday, guests are invited to have their book signed by Hello Kitty, Hello Art! artists who will be onsite throughout the day to celebrate the book release.

Hello Kitty, Hello Art! is a hardcover collectible book (9.5” x 11.5”) that is published by ABRAMS and features works of art inspired by Sanrio characters including the iconic Hello Kitty® as well as My Melody®, Keroppi® , Badtz-Maru®, Little Twin Stars®, and more. Inside its glossy cover, the book contains an impressive array of celebrated artists from around the globe who collaborated with Sanrio for Hello Kitty’s 35th anniversary celebration in 2009 and Sanrio’s 50th anniversary in 2010.

Showcasing in both art and words the inspiring ways Hello Kitty and Sanrio have influenced both their work and personal lives, the art featured in this vibrant collector’s edition ranges from edgy to obscure to world-class adorable and everything in between. The book features over 200 color illustrations that infuse pop culture and street art, as well as a pull-out sheet of custom-designed tattoos and will be on sale at the event for $35. The Hello Kitty, Hello Art! book and select limited edition prints will also be available for purchase on sanrio.com.

Free and open to the public, Sanrio’s Hello Kitty, Hello Art! pop-up will run on Friday, December 14 through Saturday, December 15 11am – 8 pm and Sunday, December 16 11am – 5 pm at Openhouse Gallery.
