‘The work I propose to make for this series of exhibitions will attempt to find new ways of making and discussing art. The work will not be against language, but resistant to it. I want to make apparent the tautology of most art writing.’

In his CSM degree show in 2007, Griffiths presented work that could be seen as either the hijacking of sculpture to display photography, or the inclusion of photographic material as one medium among others in the sculptural mix. His third appearance as studio1.1 artist in residence includes a return visit to this border between sculpture and photography; but with a difference. The photographic work he has concentrated on since college has resulted in an expansion of motifs, into documentary style and studio work, work about language, and books. The image fights back…
