NREAZON answers FADs Questions

NREAZON or born as Vanessa Velasquez April 18th 1984 is based in Dallas, Texas and well known for her use of brightly colored characters and 2D art. She decided one day to step out of the corporate world and do what she loved. Creating artwork that was different and hoping to inspire people through her art. Having never stepped in to a art or graphic design class she now is creating artwork full time for the world to enjoy. Everything is handled by NREAZON herself- the emails, website, packaging, and phonecalls. She feels that it is necessary to have hands on in everything she is involved with. Having no investors or huge companies backing her.

“I have met so many people on the way… and they are all part of my family”

Being a Artist to me is more than just putting paint on a new canvas or toy. Its reaching out to people and letting them know where I came from, telling them my life experiences, and meeting great people on the way. Whether they are wearing one of my T-shirts or have a custom toy by me; I want them to be knowledgeable about what NREAZON stands for.

1 If you weren’t an artist, what else would you be?
If I wasn’t a artist I would probably still be a makeup artist working on runway shows and television

2 Name 3 of your favourite artists.
still my fave artists but a little more on the middle of the list would be Gary Baseman, Frank Kozik, and Amanda Visell.

3. Anytime, any place – which artist’s body would you most like to inhabit?

hmmm I would say Takashi Murakami he has amazing installations and would be great to see all those assistants working on one of his pieces.

4 What is your favourite ‘ism’?
instrumentalism

5 What was the most intelligent thing that someone said or wrote about your work?

“Your artwork takes me to a happy place… Reminds me of when I was a child and had no worries in the world” by someone I met at my artshow

6. And the dumbest?
“Its Pokemon”

7 Which artists would you most like to rip off, sorry, I mean appropriate as a critique of originality and authorship?
There is a artist named “Mr” who has amazing installations. There is one that is a Huge childs head and when you look inside the eye there is a entire room with elaborate decorations….. Just Brilliant!

8 Do you care what your art costs? State your reasons!
Yes… I really don’t like putting ridiculous prices for my artwork. I really want my artwork to be enjoyed by all. That’s why I work on different mediums from Canvas and Vinyl Toys to Tshirts and limited prints.

9 What are the three big ideas that you would like your work to express?
Happiness, Independence, and no boundaries

10 Are you a political artist?
No

11 How do you start the process of making work?
When I start a Vinyl Toy my process usually starts with me drawing out my plans in my sketch book.
next I put on some good music and start sculpting accessories and dig in on mold making and painting the figure.

12 What next?
It would be a Vinyl Toy that I am currently working on. It has to be one of my favorite pieces so far.

13 If Moma and the Tate and the Pompidou wanted to acquire one of your works each, which would you want them to have?
create artwork that inspires people and opens their mind
make an atmosphere that allows my artwork to be show to the world
have true insight on what the art collectors have to say

17. What is your favourite cheese?
Im always in love with a really sharp cheddar

18. What’s next for you?
Right now I am drawing out the main story of the NREAZON world to be made into prints, books, and even a animation. Of course there are a lot of projects going on at the moment. I am starting up some new custom toys along with designing the next clothing line for the site. I have already had two solo shows this year and am looking to have another by the end of the year.
